Inheritance of pedigree value by milk yield in dairy cows

The basic form of inheritance of pedigree value by milk yield of the cows of Holstein breed is intermediate, frequency of that is 50 %. Other forms of inheritance present the next part: dominance of mother – 23 %; regression – 16,4 %; dominance of father – 9,7 %; and over dominance – 0,9 %.

In the animals of Holstein breed high milk yields appeared due to display of over dominance. They prevail animals with an intermediate form, on 2566 kg (Р<0,05). Animals with the intermediate type of inheritance and with dominance of father also prevail (Р<0,01) on the yield of  the same age cattle with dominance of mother and regression.

The best pedigree value is observed in daughters on the display of the phenomenon of over dominance and presents
867 kg, that is more by 638 kg (Р<0,01) in compare with the daughters got at an intermediate inheritance and by 728 kg (Р<0,01) with dominance of father. Animals that inherited a pedigree value at an intermediate form are less by 629 kg (Р<0,01) in compare with the cattle of the same age with over dominance, and all other forms probably prevail including the cattle of the same age with dominance of father. Animals that showed dominance of father prevail in pedigree value by 190 kg (Р<0,01) of the same age cattle with dominance of mother and by 433 kg (Р<0,001) of the same age cattle with regression.

Pedigree value by yield in animals that showed dominance of mother and regression is 51 kg. and 294 kg., that’s why such animals have low rank in the herd.

Analogic mechanisms on frequency of inheritance forms, on the ranks of the size of pedigree value and on actual yields set in the herd of cows of the Ukrainian Black-and -White dairy breed. From the shown forms of inheritance most part is presented by intermediate (45,3 %) but this part is less by 4,7 % as compared with the cows of Holstein breed. As for the amount of yields of the Ukrainian Black-and-White dairy breed cows, the best are animals with over dominance, that prevail by yield all other forms of inheritance by 6662-9238 kg (of Р<0,001).

On the second place by the amount of milk yields there are animals with dominance of father, that prevail by 262 kg (Р<0,05) of cows of the same age with an intermediate inheritance and by 1839-2576 kg (Р<0,001)  of the same age cows with dominance of mother and regression. Daughters in that intermediate inheritance showed up prevail on a yield by 1577 kg (Р<0,001) of cows of the same age with dominance of mother and by 2314 kg (Р<0,001) - with regression.

On the size of pedigree value the best are also animals got for the phenomena of over dominance. A pedigree value by milk yield in such animals prevails the cows of the same age with other forms of inheritance, in particular, animals with dominance of father on 1668 kg (Р<0,001) and intermediate inheritance on 1734 kg (Р<0,001) in that a pedigree value is also positive.

Dominance of mother appeared negative, as in the cows of Holstein breed. The size of pedigree value by milk yield makes 316 kg, that is worse than analogic index in the animals of Holstein breed by 265 kg.

It is necessary to note a feature of display of such form of inheritance as regression, due to animals of the Ukrainian Black-and White dairy cattle have low enough and negative pedigree value by milk yield (–489 kg).

The best absolute indexes and pedigree value by milk yield were indicated in daughters with over dominance, dominance of father and intermediate inheritance, mainly at the terms of reliable advantage of pedigree value of fathers above mothers. The basic form of inheritance of pedigree value by milk yield of the cows of both breeds is intermediate, frequency of that presents (45,3–50 %). Other forms of inheritance present the following: dominance of mother – (23–23,7 %); regression – (16,4–
16,9 %); dominance of father – (9,7–12,9 %) and over dominance – (0,9–1,2 %).
