The influence of probiotics on biochemical indicators of blood in broiler chickens

Probiotics is the only alternative to antibiotics and helps to reduce gastro-intestinal tract diseases and increase the productivity of animals and birds. Therefore, the development of new probiotic preparations and their use for the prevention and treatment of livestock and poultry diseases is an urgent task today.

Obtaining biotech drugs based representatives of normal microflora, including lacto- and bifidobacteria strains is an important problem of modern biotechnology. The research results obtained in recent years show that the influence of probiotic preparations restores the immune status, increases phagocytic activity of monocytes, neutrophils and macrophages.

It is important to develop alternative methods of prevention and treatment of infectious and inflammatory diseases of animals which involve the use of natural drugs, with effective antagonistic effect against infectious diseases and the ability to balance the immune response. These new drugs are probiotics that are based on normal commensal microflora representatives - non-pathogenic lactic acid bacteria with antibacterial, and holesterol-modulating immunogenic properties.

The aim was to study the influence of probiotic preparations Laktokas Probifid, biochemical and blood parameters of broilers.

To address the objectives there was a study, which was conducted under contract with the developer of probiotic preparations – The Institute of Microbiology and Virology after D.K. Zabolotny at the NAS of Ukraine. For these drugs there were developed and approved specifications and technical documentation. For research use drugs Laktokas dry form and Probifid.

Laktokas and Probifid – are probiotic supplements for poultry, composed of lyophilized strains Lactobacillus casei IIR and B-7280 Bifidobacterium animalis VKB. Their useful properties are caused by peptidoglycan cell wall structure and their ability to synthesize lactic acid, hydrogen peroxide and antybiotic substances. They have high adhesiveness to epithelial cells and antagonistic activity in vitro relatively to the museum and clinical strains of Staphylococcus, Streptococcus, Candida, Psevdomonadas, E. coli and others. Effectively inhibit the growth of pathogenic staphylococcus and E. coli and Candida in vivo under experimental staphylococcus infection. Strains have such imuno-modulating properties: they activate phagocytic cell system, normalize phenotypic composition spleen lymphocytes (in case of infectious disease), increase the production of immunoregulatory cytokines Th1-type without affecting on the production of proinflammatory cytokines – tumor necrosis factor-α.

Experimental studies were performed in the BNAU vivarium conditions. The experiment was conducted on two groups-analogues broiler chickens of cross "Kobb-500." Preparations were used with food, throughout the period of cultivation: experimental group – probiotics Laktokas and Probifid in accordance dose of 0,4 and 0,5 g/kg feed, poultry in control group was fed by mixed fodder without probiotic. Chickens were kept on floor with free access to feed and water. Blood samples were taken for biochemical tests.

The samples were tested for serum total protein, albumin, creatinine, uric acid, the concentration of total lipids, total cholesterol, triacylglycerol (TAG), calcium, phosphorus, the activity of alanine aminotransferase (ALT; KF 2.6.1.2) and aspartate aminotransferase (AST; KF 2.6.1.1). Biochemical studies were conducted with using sets of "Filisit-Diagnosis" (Ukraine.) Thiol antioxidant potential assessed the contents recovered and oxidized thiol groups (HS-groups and -SS-bonds) in plasma. Statistical analysis of the results was performed by using Microsoft Excel.

The use of probiotics in feeding broiler chickens helps to optimize the antioxidant status and nonspecific resistance of the broiler chickens organism, improving blood biochemical parameters. Further research should be aimed at studying the action of probiotics on the poultry products resulting quality.
